Ever since those carefully preserved bottles of 122-year-old Murray Hill Club whiskey were discovered by Joseph Magnus’ great grandson, we’ve dedicated ourselves to the idea of revival. Continued expansion and thoughtful branding have breathed new life into our spirits and, with that in mind, we’re excited to announce that Joseph A. Magnus spirits has expanded to Ohio!
Ohio Liquor recently partnered with Joseph Magnus and Master Blender Nancy Fraley to hand select nine very special single barrels from our 13-year old private stock to be distributed throughout Ohio. Each barrel was selected to encompass a wide spectrum of tastes and notes, ensuring that customers throughout the state experience all that Joseph Magnus has to offer. The below descriptions are Nancy’s tasting notes on each barrel:
Barrel #1363 — Slightly oak forward, this barrel enjoys a depth and length on the palate. Brown butter provides a velvety creaminess, accented by cinnamon and deep barrel spice.

Barrel #1319 — An explosion of butterscotch up front is succeeded by rich vanilla notes on the mid palate and accented with cinnamon for a soothing and balanced finish.

Barrel #1320 — Full, round body exhibiting notes of toffee, butterscotch, and traditional brown basking spices. Candied orange peel lends a touch of sweetness on this perfect fall sipper.

Barrel #1375 — Exhibiting a complex bouquet of candied orange peel, mint, and a hint of woodspice, this gem of a barrel provides a long, lingering finish that fills the palate and reveals deeper tones of molasses and leather. This sipper opens up beautifully as you get deeper into the glass.

Barrel #1379 — Vibrant wood spices and cinnamon-forward heat present themselves early on the palate which yields to aromas of warm, doughy yeast rolls with a satisfying and recognizable burn on the finish.

Barrel #1378 — The nose is greeted with the comforting aromas of vanilla wafers and sugar cookie, which gives way to a healthy depth on the palate where brown baking spices, cherry, and wood spice reveal themselves. With very subtle red wine notes presenting themselves, the finish lingers for just the right amount of time and will hold up as a pre-dinner sipper or a satisfying post-dinner tipple.

Barrel #1376 — An extremely well-balanced expression characterized by notes of maple syrup, molasses and creme brulee. For the high proof, this is uncommonly soft and round on the palate, which transforms into a warm, lingering and smooth finish.

Barrel #1356 — Cherries, deep wood spices and robust, toasty oak notes feature prominently in this barrel with the assertive kick of a cinnamon-laced finish.
