Our team is excited to announce our Joseph Magnus Murray Hill Club Special Release Batch #3 has been awarded a Gold Medal and Best of Category, Certified Craft Blended Spirit – Blended Bourbon by the American Distilling Institute (ADI). The 2020 competition took place in the San Francisco Bay Area, where 45 of the top experts in distilled spirits blind tasted and wrote feedback for all 990 entries. Gold and double gold medals accounted for only 11 percent of all medals awarded.
Gold Medal – awarded to a spirit that the judging panel believed to be of exceptional quality for its class and quality.
Best of Category, Certified Craft Blended Spirit – Blended Bourbon – awarded to one spirit in an individual category that was the highest ranked medal for the category and was judged to be the best example of the category from all spirits entered in that category.
Murray Hill Club Special Release Batch #3 was released in February 2020. It was finished in malt and cider casks and clocks in at a hefty 110 proof. The batch, according to Master Blender Nancy Fraley’s Tasting Notes, has aromas of creamy brown butter with cinnamon toast, vanilla shortbread, gingersnap cookie, and Italian biscotti drizzled with thick apple blossom honey. The initial palate entry has hints of yeast acidity and dryness from the cider, but quickly gives way to sweeter, more aromatic flavors of quince marmalade, cast iron skillet-baked Southern peach cobbler with a buttery yeast biscuit crust, followed by ephemeral notes of Atlantic Ocean brine. The whiskey finishes in a trio of waves of acidity, sweetness, apple skin tannins, barrel spice, and saline.
