National Whiskey Sour Day celebrates one of our favorite cocktails, which originated in the 1860s and whose recipe was first written down in the book The Bartender’s Guide by Jerry Thomas. Try these unique variations on the classic whiskey sour cocktail on August 25.
Ginger Sour
A sharp addition to the smooth of a traditional Whiskey Sour.
- 2 oz Joseph Magnus Bourbon
- 1 oz ginger simple syrup
- .75 oz lime juice
- 1 egg white
- 1/2″ ginger chunk
- Lime wedge, garnish
Combine Joseph Magnus Bourbon, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg white in shaker. Shake vigorously for 30-60 seconds. Add ice and shake again. Set aside. Rim glass with a ginger chunk. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into the glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
New York Sour
Perhaps the most famous twist on the Whiskey Sour.
- 2 oz Joseph Magnus Bourbon
- 1 oz lemon juice
- .75 oz simple syrup
- 1 egg white (optional)
- .5 oz red wine

- 5 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
