Gin—It’s not just for warm days and icy highballs anymore. Although traditionally categorized as a summer spirit, the juniper derived gin performs excellently as a base for refined winter cocktails. Paired easily with a variety of seasonal spices and aromatics, gin is a bold and sophisticated choice for the cold weather cocktail that stands out from the rest.

Coffee Gin & Tonic

2 oz Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin
2 oz  tonic
2 oz cold brew
.5 oz simple syrup
Lemon wedge, garnish
Rosemary sprig, garnish

In a glass with ice add Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin, cold brew, simple syrup, and tonic. Stir until incorporated. Garnish with lemon wedge and rosemary.

The Vergiliana: Citrus Gin Hot Toddy

Hot water, for serving
5 oz Thatcher’s Organic Blood Orange Liqueur
5 oz Magnus Vigilant District Dry Gin
2.5 oz dry vermouth
2.5 oz campari
2½ tbsp simple syrup
5 mint sprigs, for muddling

Fill a kettle with water and bring to a boil. In a pitcher, combine Thatcher’s Organic Blood Orange Liqueur, Magnus Vigilant District Dry Gin, dry vermouth, campari and simple syrup. Add the mint and gently muddle. Divide the mixture among 5 rocks glasses and top with the piping hot water. Serve immediately.

The Martinez

1.5 oz Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin
1.5 oz sweet vermouth
.25 oz maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Angostura bitters
orange twist for garnish

Pour Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur and bitters into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir until ingredients are mixed and chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Express the orange peel by twisting it over the glass and rubbing it along the rim. Then drop it into the glass as garnish.

Hot Buttered Winter Gin

2 oz apple juice
1 ⅓ tbsp sugar syrup (infused with cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and orange)
1 generous knob of butter
1 cinnamon stick, to garnish
1 orange peel, to garnish

Heat all ingredients – except garnishes – in a small saucepan over low heat until butter is melted and the flavours have infused (do not simmer or boil). Pour warm into a goblet glass. Garnish with the cinnamon stick and orange peel
