Our team likes our spirits like we like our presidents: distinguished and refined, charming but accessible. So we crafted several cocktails with a few of our favorite presidents in mind and using remarkable spirits. Join us in opening our Presidential Liquor Cabinet and choose one of the four specialty cocktails below for election night. No matter which side of the aisle you sit on, we promise the evening of November Third will be far more palatable with one of these concoctions in hand.
No. 1
Inspired by our nation’s prolific first president, George Washington, the No. 1 is a delightfully cozy cocktail and our take on a traditional Hot Toddy. Washington was an apple enthusiast and kept orchards at Mt. Vernon. We imagine the No. 1 is the kind of cocktail this founding father would sip while he surveyed his estate on a crisp Virginian morning.
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 2 oz Joseph Magnus Bourbon
- 5 ounces apple cider
- Lemon wedge, cinnamon stick, 2 whole cloves, garnish
Coat bottom of mug with honey and add the whiskey. Fill with steaming apple cider and stir well. Garnish with lemon wedge, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves.
No. 35
Whether he was sailing around Nantucket in his Ray Bans or getting us through the Cuban Missile Crisis, it’s hard to think of John F. Kennedy and not think “cool.” This smooth, calming chamomile cocktail delivers a sneaky punch, and is not to be underestimated, just like its namesake.
- 2 oz Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- .5 oz chamomile syrup
- .5 oz egg white
- 3 dashes aromatic bitters
Add gin, lemon juice, chamomile syrup, egg white, and bitters to shaker. Dry shake to break up egg and thoroughly homogenize. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
No. 3
President Thomas Jefferson was once quoted as saying, “Every man has two countries – his own, and France.” That’s right, his love of France is not just a sub-plot in Hamilton! His Francophilia and penchant for peace negotiations are so well known that it seemed only fitting to name this French 75 after our third president. This traditional cocktail recipe, paired with our smoky, savory Vigilant Navy Strength Gin, is crisp and sophisticated, just like Mr. Jefferson.
- 1 oz Joseph Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
- 3 oz champagne
Add gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice to shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Top with champagne.
No. 26
The No. 26 is bold and packs a punch just like our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt. He was believed to have drank up to a gallon of coffee a day! This coffee old-fashioned might not give you the energy to bust trusts, storm San Juan hill, or ride a moose, but we think it is just the thing to keep you up through election night.
- 1.5 oz Joseph Magnus Bourbon
- .5 oz creme de cacao (dark)
- 1.5 ounces water
- 1 oz favorite espresso (chilled)
- .5 oz simple syrup
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- Whole coffee beans, garnish
Fill shaker with ingredients and ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with coffee beans.
